Blackstar Constellation Characters — Star Pattern Names, Myths & Descriptions
The constellations of Blackstar are ancient forces — cosmic commanders whose territories span whole regions of sky. Each is drawn from real astronomical history and given a warrior identity in the Blackstar Shooting Stars universe.
Orion
Orion is one of the most recognizable constellations in the sky, a celestial hunter visible from both hemispheres and home to some of the brightest stars — Betelgeuse, Rigel, and the famous Belt. Ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Babylonians all recognized and named this pattern. In Blackstar, Orion is the supreme hunter commander — the one who never loses a target and leads all other constellation forces into battle.
Perseus
Perseus is a northern constellation named after the Greek hero who slew the Gorgon Medusa and rescued Andromeda. It contains the famous variable star Algol, the "demon star." In Blackstar, Perseus is the legendary hero of the cosmos — a slayer of impossible monsters, always appearing at the darkest moment to turn the tide.
Andromeda
Andromeda is both a constellation and the name of our nearest large galactic neighbor, the Andromeda Galaxy, visible to the naked eye and on a collision course with the Milky Way. The mythological Andromeda was chained to a rock as a sacrifice. In Blackstar, Andromeda is a chained warrior who breaks free — their power only fully unleashed when released from restriction, at which point they are unstoppable.
Cassiopeia
Cassiopeia is the W-shaped queen of the northern sky, easily identified year-round from northern latitudes. In Greek myth she was a vain queen who boasted her daughter was more beautiful than the sea nymphs, angering Poseidon. In Blackstar, Cassiopeia is a proud and formidable queen — her vanity fuels a relentless drive to be the most powerful, most celebrated force in the cosmos.
Cepheus
Cepheus is the king of Ethiopia in Greek mythology, husband of Cassiopeia and father of Andromeda. As a constellation he sits near the north celestial pole. In Blackstar, Cepheus is a steady, quietly powerful ruler — overshadowed by his more dramatic queen but holding the kingdom together through wisdom.
Hercules
Hercules is one of the largest constellations in the sky, named after the greatest of Greek heroes, famous for the Twelve Labors. It contains one of the brightest globular clusters, M13. In Blackstar, Hercules is the laborer of the cosmos — given impossible tasks, but completing every single one through sheer will and strength.
Scorpius
Scorpius is a zodiac constellation rich with bright stars, including the red supergiant Antares. In myth the scorpion was sent to kill Orion, and the two are placed on opposite sides of the sky so they never meet. In Blackstar, Scorpius is Orion's eternal nemesis — the two greatest commanders are always in conflict, always separated, always circling for the decisive confrontation.
Sagittarius
Sagittarius is the archer of the zodiac, pointing his bow toward the center of the Milky Way. This region is the most star-rich part of the sky and contains the supermassive black hole at the galactic center. In Blackstar, Sagittarius is the gateway warrior — the archer who guards the entrance to the galactic core and the secrets of creation itself.
Aquarius
Aquarius is the water bearer, one of the oldest recognized constellations, associated in ancient cultures with flooding, renewal, and the heavens pouring knowledge into the world. In Blackstar, Aquarius is the distributor of cosmic power — a fluid warrior who channels energy to other fighters and controls the flow of battle from a support position.
Pisces
Pisces represents two fish tied together by a cord, a zodiac constellation associated with empathy, duality, and the boundary between sea and sky. In Blackstar, Pisces is a dual-natured warrior who exists between worlds — neither fully star nor fully ocean, able to navigate realms that no other fighter can enter.
Aries
Aries the ram is the first sign of the zodiac, associated with the first vernal equinox point in ancient times. In Greek myth, the golden-fleeced ram carried Phrixus to safety, and its fleece became the prize of Jason and the Argonauts. In Blackstar, Aries is the first-charger — always leading the opening assault, always the one who crashes through the front line.
Taurus
Taurus the bull contains two of the most famous star clusters — the Pleiades and the Hyades — and the bright red eye of Aldebaran. In myth it is associated with Zeus transforming into a bull to carry Europa. In Blackstar, Taurus is a tank-class warrior — massive, unstoppable, and carrying legendary forces within their constellation territory.
Gemini
Gemini is the twins — Castor and Pollux — representing duality, partnership, and communication. The Gemini meteor shower radiates from this constellation. In Blackstar, Gemini is the ultimate team constellation — their warriors always fight in perfect paired formations, doubling the power of every attack.
Cancer
Cancer the crab is the faintest of the zodiac constellations but contains Praesepe, the Beehive Cluster — a beautiful open cluster of stars. In myth the crab assisted the Hydra against Hercules. In Blackstar, Cancer is the underdog warrior — overlooked, quiet, but containing a hidden swarm of power that emerges when least expected.
Leo
Leo the lion is one of the easiest constellations to identify, with the sickle pattern forming the lion's head and the bright star Regulus at its heart. Ancient Egyptians associated it with the annual flooding of the Nile. In Blackstar, Leo is the king of the cosmic beasts — regal, territorial, and ruler of an enormous stretch of stellar sky.
Virgo
Virgo is the largest zodiac constellation and second largest overall, home to the Virgo Cluster — one of the richest galaxy clusters near the Milky Way. It represents the goddess of harvest. In Blackstar, Virgo commands an army so large it spans multiple galaxies — a goddess-class warrior who brings both life and judgment to the cosmos.
Libra
Libra the scales is the only zodiac constellation representing an object rather than a creature, associated with justice, balance, and the weighing of souls in ancient Egyptian mythology. In Blackstar, Libra is the cosmic judge — called upon to settle disputes between constellation forces, their verdict is final and binding across the universe.
Ophiuchus
Ophiuchus the serpent bearer is the thirteenth constellation on the ecliptic, often called the missing zodiac sign. It depicts a man grappling with a serpent and is associated with the healer Asclepius. In Blackstar, Ophiuchus is the wildcard warrior who refuses to be classified — too powerful to be ignored, fighting between factions and owing allegiance to none.
Aquila
Aquila the eagle is home to Altair, one of the three stars of the Summer Triangle, and is associated with the eagle of Zeus in Greek mythology. In Blackstar, Aquila is a messenger warrior of divine speed — carrying orders from the highest commanders and striking targets with eagle-precision from great heights.
Cygnus
Cygnus the swan contains Deneb, one of the most luminous stars in the galaxy, and the Northern Cross asterism. It lies along the Milky Way and contains a region rich with stellar nurseries. In Blackstar, Cygnus is the death-herald warrior — beautiful in flight but bearing news of endings, swooping through the stellar nurseries where old warriors become new ones.
Lyra
Lyra is a small but famous constellation containing Vega, the fifth-brightest star in the sky, and the Ring Nebula. It represents the lyre of Orpheus in Greek myth. In Blackstar, Lyra is a harmony warrior whose music-based power creates force fields and resonance attacks that shatter enemy formations.
Pegasus
Pegasus the winged horse contains the Great Square of Pegasus — four bright stars forming a nearly perfect square, one of the most recognizable shapes in the autumn sky. In Blackstar, Pegasus is a cavalry warrior — the swift mount of elite cosmic riders, carrying heroes into battle faster than any force can intercept.
Auriga
Auriga the charioteer contains the bright star Capella and three beautiful open clusters. In myth Auriga was a charioteer who invented the four-horse chariot. In Blackstar, Auriga is a master vehicle-class warrior who commands rapid assault formations and drives the cosmic chariots of the star armies.
Bootes
Boötes the herdsman contains Arcturus, the brightest star in the northern sky. It is one of the oldest recognized constellations and associated with the driver of Ursa Major around the pole. In Blackstar, Boötes is a shepherd warrior who manages vast forces — keeping them in formation and directing them across cosmic pastures.
Draco
Draco the dragon is a large circumpolar constellation winding between the Big and Little Dippers. In myth it is the dragon Ladon who guarded the golden apples of the Hesperides. In Blackstar, Draco is the eternal guardian — coiling around the celestial pole for millennia, protecting the secrets of the north from all who would reach them.
Centaurus
Centaurus is a large southern constellation containing Alpha Centauri, the nearest star system to Earth. It also holds Omega Centauri, the largest and most massive globular cluster orbiting the Milky Way. In Blackstar, Centaurus is the wise warrior-scholar — half cosmic beast, half cosmic sage — and keeper of the closest territories to Earth's solar system.
Hydra
Hydra is the largest constellation in the sky by area, a vast serpentine figure stretching across 1,303 square degrees. In myth the Lernaean Hydra regrew two heads for every one cut off. In Blackstar, Hydra is an endlessly regenerating warrior — every time they are defeated, they come back stronger, until the enemy simply runs out of the strength to keep fighting.
Eridanus
Eridanus is the sixth-largest constellation, a long celestial river winding from near Orion all the way to the southern sky where it ends at the bright star Achernar. In Blackstar, Eridanus is a river warrior who flows through the battlefield — constantly moving, connecting distant forces, and cutting through enemy lines like a current carves through stone.
Phoenix
Phoenix is a southern constellation representing the mythological firebird that rises from its own ashes, associated with rebirth, renewal, and eternal return. In Blackstar, Phoenix is the resurrection warrior — each defeat becomes a transformation, and they always return in a more powerful form than before.
Corvus
Corvus the crow is a small but distinct southern constellation associated in myth with Apollo's sacred bird — a crow who was punished for bringing bad news. In Blackstar, Corvus is a spy-class warrior who reports on enemy movements but is feared and mistrusted even within their own faction.
Delphinus
Delphinus the dolphin is a small but charming constellation that actually looks like its namesake, with five stars forming a distinctive compact pattern. In myth dolphins guided Poseidon's bride to him. In Blackstar, Delphinus is a fleet navigator — small and nimble, guiding larger forces through treacherous cosmic terrain they would never traverse alone.
